The manufacturing overhead costs are indirect
costs; therefore, quantity does not represent direct
consumption of a resource. Instead, the quantity
standards are set in terms of allocation bases,
separate for each indirect cost pool. Cause-and-effect relationship and
the level of effect on expenses are the fundamental
criterion for selecting the bases.
